Dr. Georgina Perez Liz
“The impact on our lives when we receive a diagnosis”
About the Speaker
Dr. Perez Liz obtained her medical degree from prestigious Universidad Panamericana, in Mexico City. She also pursued graduate level courses from the National Institute of Public Health in Mexico. Her career in neuroscience research began at the center for Neurovirology at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, where she actively contributed to several projects in the neuropathology lab. After learning about her son’s autism diagnosis, Dr. Perez Liz redirected her career in neuroscience to incorporate behavioral science and mental health at large. She joined the AJ Drexel Autism Institute (AJDAI) in 2016, under the mentorship of Dr. Diana Robins. Dr. Perez Liz’s role at the AJDAI has been both clinical and research oriented. She is part of the Early Detection and Intervention clinical team, and her research interests focus on early detection in and outside the medical home, cultural differences and inequities in early detection, strengths-based diagnosis delivery, and research capacity building. Her most notable work at the AJDAI has been leading a collaboration with a community -based coalition in Monterrey, Mexico, now going into its third year. This collaboration has successfully launched a screening and evaluation program with pediatric primary care providers and will be conducting the adaptation of the WHO’s/Autism Speaks’ Caregiver Skills Training Program for Mexico in 2021.
