About the Speaker

Born and raised in Southern California, Patricia Powell was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome in 2001 when she was a sophomore in high school. Prior to moving to Tennessee in 2012, she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Arts and Sciences at Southwestern College in Winfield, Kansas in May of 2008. She has lived in Texas, Arizona, and briefly, Chicago, Illinois. After moving to Tennessee via AmeriCorps, she has since become an active advocate for the autism community.

She is the President and Group Facilitator for Nashville Autism Peer Support, a Partners in Policymaking, Class of 2019, Graduate, a Young Leaders Council, Class of 2020 Graduate, a UNA-USA Nashville Cordell Hull Chapter Board Director, and an Empower Tennessee Board member. She is currently pursuing her Graduate Degree in Public Affairs through Indiana University’s online program. She is a member of the Fellowship – Two Rivers in Nashville, TN, and enjoys volunteering her time with the Junior League of Nashville, End Slavery TN, Autism Tennessee, People First (Davidson County Chapter), the Nashville Public Library, and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention. She resides in Antioch, TN, and works at the Creative Care Center preschool in Nashville, TN as a teacher’s assistant.
